There is no strict rule to this actually because some word counts would consider hyphenated words as one word while others consider the number of words despite the hyphen so fun-loving to them would be considered as two words. If you are trying to fulfill a certain number of words criteria, it might be better for you to check their rules on hyphenated words. What's more important though is that you use hyphenated words correctly.

Aren't granny's **** too frazzled and dried up to be ablle to feed this kid? What if the child died of cot death how would granny feel then and how would you cope with the knowledge that you let the silly old bugger have her away?

Get granny to come over and bill and coo at your house, and get that child immunised before it contracts something and gets sick.
