I blame IM texting habits, bad parenting and laziness. It doesn't take a lot of effort to use the spell check.

I don't know. I must admit that I screw things up often. I'm no Rhodes Scholar. I rely on spell check to bail me out most of the time. Some folks don't use or can't be bothered with the help offered. Although I must admit that the damn spell check doesn;t always work. But you are right, some of the stuff you see is atrocious ( even this word, the spell check says it's ok, not sure!) Well, to better days and bigger dictionary's.

For the same reason many people cannot seem to use the verb "are". The noun "people" is plural and requires a plural form of the verb "be." When you speak outloud, do you really say '' Why IS there ..." or would you say'"Why are there..." Grammar errors are as common as spelling errors. It is usually easy to determine if the person is not a native English speaker...these people I forgive. Others are just plain ignorant or lazy.

It is sad, isn't it? They even offer a spell check!!!!!!!!!! However, the question should be, "Why ARE there so many people that ask questions here that can't spell?"

You might want to check the grammar of your question since you seem to be concerned...

"Why is it there ARE so many people WHO ask questions here WHO can't spell?"

There are a lot of kids on here who just don't know how to spell. Everyone else is either in too much of a hurry to post, or they don't use the spell check. ;)

My thoughts exactly! Either they're too lazy to use Check Spelling or they use the same words they do when they text message on their cell phones.
They need to think for a moment, if they can, and figure out what they're doing; cell phone or computer...............
I truly wish Yahoo would make it mandatory for everyone to spell correctly or do NOT post their questions.

The illiteracy on this site actually scares me. There was one woman who posted that she was a teacher, yet her grammar and spelling was atrocious. And the kids who post on here -- They must never go to school. It's horrifying! And they don't care, which makes it even worse.

And I am not talking about the occasional typo. That happens to everyone. I'm talking about basic grammar, word usage, and spelling. The things children are taught in elementary school.

isn't it amazing how many people have answered this already?! here is my reasoning: 1.) laziness. 2.) spell checker is horrible. 3.) too much IMing going on. 4.) some words sre ment to be shortened. 5.) sometimes you sound prissy if you speak proper english.
