Why do women curl their eyelashes?

I don't understand the need to curl eyelashes. I have long eyelashes and if I were to curl them they would touch the upper part of my eyelid. So does it make them appear longer, thicker?

We tend to curl our eyelashes because it brings a brighter look to the eye and makes it appear larger. The eyelashes don't particularly look thicker or longer, that depends on the type of mascara they use. It does open up the eye therefore giving the whole face a more awake look.

Also, studies have shown that when men are given two pictures of the same woman with different eye makeup; the majority of the men prefer the woman with the seemingly "bigger" eyes. The big eye look is associated with fertility.

I have very long eyelashes as well. I do curl them, and yes they touch my eyebrows. I curl them for a few reasons- The main reason is to keep them from hitting my glasses/ sunglasses. I cannot stand the constant brushing of my eyelashes against my sunnies every time I blink or look another direction- it is very annoying. I also curl them because it brightens my eyes in general. With the curled eye lashes and some mascara, you can create a very dramatic look . I feel my eyes are my best feature, so I want to draw attention to them. The slight curl makes them feminine and more noticeable!

I think they look longer curled. If you have long lashes you probably don't need too but if they sort of shade your eyes curling might make your eyes look larger. I had long thick lashes when I was young but age has made them thinner and I think shorter. (The only thing that thinned with age, alas.)

People curl there eye lashes because they think they need to have them curly. but DO NOT!!!!!!! use it because if you do you will have to use it the rest of your life. My mom has use it all her life and all it did was make here eye lashes fall out and now they are really straight and she has to put fake ones in to make it look full alot of people dont leed curly eye lashes its the lenght and thickness just get a good mascara.

Curling makes your lashes appear thicker. I have fairly long lashes, too, but I curl them and apply mascara to make them look more substantial. It works!

i curl my eyelashes because the eyelashes keep getting in my eye and it drives me insane. Also people do it because it makes their eyes seem more open.

you're so lucky you have long lashes....
for me, i have short straight lashes and i need to curl it so it gives me a "brighter, more awake" look.
It just makes it look longer and it really does make a difference in how you look.

i curl mine because it opens up my eyes and makes them look bigger. plus it makes my eyes look more cat like.
