The real problem is not that there are too many people. Science and technology have the ability to feed, clothe and shelter all of us. The problem lies with how the world's wealth is distributed and the systems that we currently employ are anything but perfect.

When we contrast the plenty in the Northern Hemisphere with the abject want in the south, we have to ask ourselves why such inequalities exist and how we can even things out a bit.

Why would we even want to do that?

Morally speaking, we fulfill the requirements for those of us with two cloaks to give to those with none.

From a utilitarian point of view, we decrease suffering due to crushing poverty

And most pertinently, it is a well known fact that birth rates decline and stabilizes as the quality of living goes up.

Actually Capitalism is the answer. As a society becomes more productive, educated and wealthy, the birthrate drops. Like as is happening in Europe, the US (our population is growing because of illegals and immigrants, they are having children), and Japan. Japan and Germany are paying women to have children!!
Germany actually had negative population growth last year, more people died than were born.
China is also headed for a population crash because of their law only allowing one child to a couple. Those couples were killing or aborting girls because sons traditionally take care of their parents in their old age. Therefore since they can only have one child they all want sons. There will be a generation of single men without mates or the possibility of getting one.

By the way that is already starting in China. There is a black market in North Korean women. There are groups that sneak across the border and kidnap the women and sell them in China.

I'm going to get a lot of heat for this, but I think the number of children should be regulated by the government and parents should be licensed before being allowed to become pregnant.

It's Catholicism that's driving overpopulation with no birth control and no abortion. In many of the poor populations of the world, religion has stepped in and converted them to the belief that abortion and birth control are sinful.

Governments have also tried to increase their populations to have bigger armies.

In many of the poorer countries of the world people just keep having kids because they need help in the family and because they have no way to prevent pregnancy.

In our own country, welfare actually encourages poor women to have moor children so that they can get and keep more benefits coming in - stay pregnant and with small children and we'll keep giving money, food, shelter and health care to you and yours. Pretty good deal huh!

The planet is not overpopulated! The question is grounded in greed. Our abiltiy to care about others in the human race and to share natural resources is retarded. Nature takes care of overpopulation.

That's easy...Death Penalty for parking violations!

Just kidding. I remember reading somewhere that the earth is definitely not over populated and that people occupy only a small percentage of the available land mass.

Follow China's one child policy. The one child policy was designed from the outset to be a one generation policy Every couple are encouraged to have only one child. Viewing one-child family as ideal and if there is additional child or children, the parents are required to pay economic penalties and are sometimes denied in bonuses and their workplace.

Re-elect Bush.
You do not need to be concerned there are people in charge of that project now. (They seek about a 70% reduction in the population.) Biological creations are part of their arsenal. They are being released all over the Planet now. Also D.U. and other Nuclear byproducts.

I recently read that since China initiated its one child per family rule, 400,000,000 less people inhabit the earth. While its not a popular solution
it definetly has proven to be a successful one.
