I think they fly really well for an animal that only does that may be twice a year for migration. I often wonder whether they can land and rest wherever they want, or that they have to find a patch of water to land on. I also wonder why they talk so much when they fly.....A flock of ducks just flew by my house this morning, and I am glad that I can ask silly questions like this here.

It depends on the age, size, and strength of the duck. It also depends on wing design. (Some genetic flaws could render a duckling unable to fly period, while other genetic mishaps could let one fly with the greatest of ease for long periods of time)

Ducks can land on almost any extensive, flat surfaces, but their webbed feet are more water-friendly.

The pintail duck travel over the Pacific Ocean and that is over 2000 miles of non stop flying.

Well, it's because they are never on the ground, so their feet don't get tired.
