I'M GONNA TELL YOU A STORY
There once were two kids(a boy and a girl) and they always went back and forth fighting and being friends. One day, all of a sudden the boy starts needing to talk to the girl more and she becomes one of the few people that make him feel better.
Has this ever happened to anyone?? would it be defined as a crush?

Puppy love......that's what it's called.
Let your friend know this:
Everyone wants, no,needs someone to be on their side.
People tend to gravitate towards people who have the same thoughts and feelings as they do.
It's why we have best friends and confidants.
Just try no to confuse this with another emotion....love.
It has to be mutual, or it might end up being disastrous.
Friendship is wonderful between two people of the opposite sex, when you turn that into a relationship, it sometimes becomes overrated, and you lose that special bond that you had.
Not saying all the time, because I Have known of people to marry their "best friend". And that is great, it just never works out for anyone I know.
Fight the urge to make it more than a friend, at least for the time being.
Learn more by paying attention, and listening.
Good luck, and I hope you take the advice of someone who's been there.
If it is, in fact, your friend, you are asking for, then let him know what everyone had to say, just be careful. You don't want to ruin your relationship with him over a girl.

Were the boy and girl once in a relationship, or were they always just friends?
He could have just realized that he has different feelings for her now and wants to be with her more. It could be the start of a relationship. But if he does have feelings for her, he should let her know and see where she stands. She may have the same feelings for him. And if not, at least she would have the chance to express herself. But I think he should take his time and continue being her friend for a while before saying anything.
Best friends make the best life partners!

Yes that has happened to me before with one of my guy friends. I don't think its a big deal as far as a "crush". I think the two people are just really really close friends. I think the only possible way to find out if it really is a crush going on is to talk and spend more and more time with this person.

I wouldn't think it's a crush although I have been wrong before. A crush (in my book) is something you have for a movie star or someone out of reach. I think your friend has had a growth spurt and is now starting to show his mature side. He went from childish spats to a fondness for you.
It's your decision where to go from here. Make it a good one and above all else, be happy.

If he's really a friend and he wants the relationship to go in a direction other than what you want, TALK TO HIM! Put all the cards on the table and see how you both feel. Maybe he's just going through something and needs his friends.
Better to clear the air now.
