There have been so many great covers over the years....but i'll go with two of the classics....
Janis Joplin doing Bobby Mcgee (a Kris Kristoferson song)....
and Aretha Franklin doing Respect (Otis Redding)....
other greats include Hendrix doing All Along the Watchtower......Cracker's Victoria....Robyn Hitchcock's live Waterloo Sunset...The Jam's David Watts.....Blondie's Hanging on the Telephone....Talking Heads doing Take me to the River.....Red Kross doing Mercy Street

Melissa Ethridges version of Joan Armitrading's song called:
The weakness in me.
Jeff Buckleys version of Leonard Cohen's. Hallelujah.
Lisa Hannigans (Damian Rice) Rendition of Silent Night.
Gawd there are so many and I can't think of another good one right now...
I loved the heck out of Storm Large's version of "Anything" By Dramarama. On rock star supernova... That was extremely memorable. I always loved that song she kicked it's butt all over the stage and took names!

Tori Amos "Smells Like Teen Spirit"
Diamanda Galas "Gloomy Sunday"
Kate Bush "Rocket Man"
What can I say? I like overly dramatic and pretentious female singer-songwriters.

Recently I heard all these covers done by Tom Jones, but my favorite would probobly be Burning Down the House, by Talking Heads, but it was covered by Tom Jones and the Cardigans.

I think mine is Simple Man by Lynyrd Skynyrd covered by Shinedown. They did an AWESOME job and I like it better than the original and I'm a big Skynyrd fan.
