Because for the first three months baby grow on schedule with one another. After that they grow at there own speed so it's harder to tell based on size. Some babies will grow quicker then others and this is perfectly normal.

What its more accurate about is the age of the baby...its more accurate in the first 12 weeks because individual growth variables havent had the chance to 'kick in' yet. Like a couple who are both over 6 feet tall would be having a pretty big baby...this will start to become apparent after 12 weeks or so...and what looks like a giant 5 month old fetus is only a 4 month old fetus who will undoubtedly be over 6 feet himself...am i making sense? Every baby will start to be different at this point.... So when they say a sonogram is more accurate in the first 12 weeks I believe they are only refering to figuring out the EDD and the babies age.

I'm assuming you mean in dating a pregnancy. The reason why is because every baby is different, a lot has to do with genetics. Babies are all different sizes when they are born, so it's hard to date a pregnancy later on, it can be off by weeks. In the first trimester babies are all about the same size si it's pretty accurate, off by only a few days.

It's more accurate for dating purposes because after 12 weeks, fetuses can grow at different rates, so the estimated due date is more likely to be off. Good Luck!!

Most babies will develop at the same pace during the first 3 months. After that, every baby will grow differently.

Its more accurate for gestation size and due dates because after that point babies grow at such different rates as we all do. It would end up making some babies premies and some carry too long.
