tom landry, who was an assistant under giants coach jim lee howell, landry was defensive coach, vince lombardi was offensive coach

Bill Parcells mostly used a 3-4 defense when he was the Giants coach. So my guess would be Tom Landry, who was the Giant's defensive coach before going to the expansion Dallas Cowboys around 1960.
