There is precedent in Major League Baseball and the NFL for re-using the name of a team that had moved: The expansion Washington Senators in 1961 (original Senators moved to Minnesota in 1961); the Washington Nationals (formerly the Montreal Expos) in 2005, the origianl Washington Nationals became the Washington Senators in the 1950's; the Baltimore Orioles (former St. Louis Browns, moved to Baltimore in 1954) the original Orioles were a National League team that folded in 1899; the expansion Milwaukee Brewers (same franchise as the St. Louis Browns, moved to St. Louis in 1902). In the NFL, through a series of technicalities, the Cleveland Browns essentially became an expansion team re-using the name after their owner took the old franchise to Baltimore. The deal was convoluted so, in an exact legalistic sense, the Browns are still the same franchise as before the Ravens move, but as a practical matter, it is a re-use. In baseball, the expansion Colorado Rockies took the same name as the NHL team that has moved from KC and later moved to New Jersey. Also, there is a history of teams using the same name in baseball and football in the same city: New York Giants; St. Louis Cardinals; and similar names: Detroit Tigers/Lions; Chicago Cubs/Bears; Baltimore Orioles/Ravens; New York Mets/Jets/Nets. So it would be most likely be possible for KC to re-use the Scouts name, if they wanted, or the Monarchs, Royals, Chiefs, Athletics, etc. Other possibilites might have tie-ins with the history and/or geography of the KC area: Plainsmen; Voyageurs; Cowboys; Wranglers; or Jazz. But I would rather see them stay in Pittsburgh or move to Winnipeg. Kansas City has a metro population almost three times the size of Winnipeg, but maybe not as many hockey fans, so it might be a tough decision for an owner or for the league.

If they move to Kansas City everything will change including color, I know it sucks but if it happens then i hope its good for the NHL. If they make the playoffs this year the won't move. I also heard a rumor from a good source that a NHL team will be in Las Vegas next year. That would be awesome for the NHL and professional sports. I just want my Wings to bring home the cup.

Yes they would need to establish a new identity. It does stink after all those good years they had in the 90s to loose there team. They have alot of young talent on that team right now Crosby and Malkin are exciting players.

Hopefully they go back to something like the old Kansas City Scouts uniforms. We need more retro jerseys:

If they were to move (god I hope they dont!!!) they would get a new name and new jerseys. They will make a lot more money by changing the jerseys and colors than if they left them what they are.

The Pens aren't goin' anywhere. I've been a fan since they were the Hornets of the AHL & their colors were black & red.

Yes. They will be called KC and the sunshine band. They will have to grow Afros. The uniforms will be made of gold stitching and have silk tassels. The bottom of the hockey socks will look like bell bottoms. They will all have to wear tube skates. They will "sound your funky horn" after every goal.

depend if the management wants to do it. from what i heard next season NHL going to use format fitting jerseys. Imagine this year All-Star jersey design but with other teams' color and logo.I mean when NBA's Hornets moved from Charotte to New Orleans , they kept their name and jerseys.
