Hi there,

I have to be induced tomorrow due to medical issues. I am due feb 2. However the dr. is happy about the fact that yesterday i was 2cm dialated and 70% effaced. He even said that he wouldnt be surprised if i end up going into labour on my own before i am scheduled to go in on saturday morning. I want to know ANY way to try to bring labour on myself tonight. Other than castor oil/enema I am up for just about anything. With induction i have to stay in bed the whole labour and i would perfer to get in the jacuzzi tubs in the birthing room or walk around. Would a warm jacuzzi bath hurt tonight?? Please help with any suggestions.

Thanks

I am not afraid of being induced, I was with my first child, the issue i have is that i will have to stay confined to the bed and not be able to get up and walk around or anything. I was in labour 23 hours the first time, and that's a long time to sit in bed. Thanks for ALL replies, it's muchly appreciated

the reason i have to stay in bed is because the baby needs to be monitored all the time. I have high blood pressure.

DO NOT DO CASTOR OIL! You will end up with diarreha and dehydration- and more likely than not- still pregnant. Such methods relax your bowels which causes cramping than can lead to contractions- however this will only send you into labor if you are ready. When anyone says that it did, it always seems that they were close to delivery anyway and it could very well be a coincidence.

I was dialated to a 4 and 80% effaced for 3 weeks before I elected to be induced. I tried everything in the book (except castor oil-because the doctor recommends against it) Exercise, sex, spicy foods, tea. Nothing brought on labor. When I was induced, I went from a 4-7 the first hour, had an epidural, (pitocin contractions are brutal), and an hour later was at a 10- pushed for 4 contractions- and gave birth to a beautiful 8lb 6.4 oz baby girl! I have had 3 total- the first one I went into labor on my own on my due date, the 2nd two I was induced.

Induction is not that bad. Yes- pitocin makes the contractions come faster and harder, but even a natural delivery gets to that point eventually. You will not be able to roam around, however, your labor should be shorter so you won't feel the need to move around as much. If you are induced, get the epidural-- it will make everything so much easier. with my 2nd I braved labor for a couple of hours, stuck at a 7, then the nurse suggested an epidural to help me relax. After it was administered, I started to enjoy the experience, I dialated fully, and gave birth 1hour later.

As long as your water hasn't broken, a warm bath is a great idea. As long as it is not too hot, it will help you to relax, help you sleep well, and prepare you for the work ahead tomorrow. Good luck!

First off....I was 2 cm and 60% effaced for over 2 weeks. I ended up being induced about a week after my due date. My question is why you have to stay in bed? They encouraged me to walk, to exercises, take a bath.....all that. I just had to take my IV pole with me. So me and the IV pole strolled the halls lol! They covered my arm with a plastic type wrap when I took a bath and wanted that arm out of the water. But as far as natural inducing....relax, relax, relax! Try warm showers, or baths (if water not broken), walking and sex! Those were the ONLY methods my doctor approved of. Good Luck!!

You don't *have* to stay in bed, that's totally up to the nurse you have. I've been induced three times...each one at a different hospital. The first was the worst, but the other two let me walk around. At one hospital I had to lay down every half hour for the monitor, at the other I had one of those monitors that send the signal to the machine, so i was wearing it constantly.

the reason they want you down is because induction is so very dangerous, it can cause uterine rupture. So they want to monitor as much as possible. Talk to your OB about compromising with the monitor, because walking will definitely help with contraction control.

I don't think a doctor would say to try it or not but if you have a pump, try pumping for a min or two on each side. I did that and I had contractions with in 12-24 hours after. Then walk, walk, walk. I still had to be induced though cause my cervix was beside the baby's head and couldn't got ant father than 3 1/2 cm. Everything was fine once they broke my water. It went very fast. Good luck and congrats on your baby!! I wish I was close to having my baby.

Your baby will share my birthday!

My mother-in-law went into early labor by not eating anything all day except for a couple of crackers.

I was induced with both of my children due to medical issues - I did not have to stay in bed, I just had an IV attached the entire time (which ended up saving my life.) In fact, the nurses encouraged me to walk around - remember to bring your robe!

Congratulations!

Have as much sex as possible. Take hot showers as hot as you can stand the water immediately after sex. Don't do the castor oil or enema. You could dehydrate the baby. I've been induced 3 times. Congrats and Good Luck!

Here's what you do. WALK WALK WALK... when you walk take rests and rock your hips back and forth. Do this all day and trust me, if the baby is ready (which it sounds like he/she is) then you will be in labor by tonight.

I was 100% effaced and dilated to 2 when I went into the hospital at 4:30 in the afternoon and had my son at 8:36pm that same night. Walking is what made my labor go so quick. Good luck!

I love warm baths when I'm preggnant! But I don't htink they help bring on labor. Nipple stimulation can, but "THey " say not to try it. I have also heard that sex and walking around can.

Good luck , but sometimes we don't get to choose how these thing happen, if they are worried about you medically, then they probably wouldn't let you get in the tub or ander very far anyhow.

When I was pregnant my doc wanted to induce me too and I didn't want it so he said have lots of sex and don't clean up. Let him go inside you, the sperm he leaves in you thins you out. Like 3 times a day he said to me and it worked I went into labor that night after doing it 3 times and leaving stuff inside me. Good luck. I have been to induced to and its not that bad. Just enjoy your day and the moment your baby arrives!
