If you think all rap videos look the same your not looking very hard. YES, the media and record companies will make the same monotonous, generic rap video. Where there is girls and money and cars and jewels. BUT there are a lot of rap video that are made that are fairly creative, its just so hard to get major market video stations like MTV & Bet to play them. Record Company knows that if they make a genric video that these stations are going to play them over and over again. Thanks to the internet thou, you can find alot of creative rap videos being made.
If you go back and look at The Roots "Never Do" video its mocking the typical video. Some other artist that you might have seen in the mainstream making cool videos our :
Lupe Fiasco -"Gotcha" & "Kick Push"
Mos Def "Uma Say"
Pharcyde "Drop" & "Runnin"
Common (He has a whole catolog),
The RZA "Tradegy"
The Roots (They got a bunch too)
Thats just off the top of my head. I would say there needs to be more balance in rap...there is room for both "booty" videos and more creative videos that we rarely see. peace

That's because most rappers are born straight out the streets my friend. They retell what they've been through in their existence.
Also is because when you've got nothing and suddenly get lots of cash, you go crazy getting all the things you always wanted and show them off to the world.
I have nothing against rap music. However I must admit that not all rappers are the same. For instance, Will Smith (former known as Fresh Prince) never killed, robbed, had sex or threw money in any of his records and he achieved success.
Deserve a honest mention: Run-D.M-C.

how did i know i was gonna see one of these questions? Someone trying to bash rap again and probably doesn't know a damn thing about the history. The reason why is because rap went mainstream. Once it did people stopped rapping about the good stuff like getting an education and trying to make the best of what you have to the garbage we have now. You may think all rap is the same but it isn't. JUST like rock there are different genres. Gangsta rap and all that stuff is in the spotlight, while alternative rap and abstract rap stay underground never to be heard because they don't fit the mold of what record labels wanna sell. Therefore they don't get to make videos. There are plenty of Cd's. They could and have at times shown different things. Your musical genre does not bound you to sing/rap about anything specific. There just happens to be trends in what people in the genres talk about. There are plenty of rockers that talk about sex and the good life. Don't generalize. If you want good songs look for them or better yet ask. Who better to ask then someone who is from the birthplace of hip hop. THE BRONX.

it has to do with the lyrics´ content. The audience wouldn´t understand or "feel it" without all the images of sex, money, ect. And also you can see it even if the way they move their arms and the gestures. It goes all with the flow...
They don´t have too much imagination, but in order to happen a video "make over" it has to happen the same with the lyrics. That way rap would evolutionate from a mere street rythm to a soffisticated one.

Their videos are a reflection of their music...no originality. If the music sounds the same, you know the videos will be the same, too. To me, all that rap videos are is about them showing off their favorite team jersey, their bling, and their "pimped out" ride.

If you don't like the monotony of the rap videos, then don't watch them. Watch the variety of the rock videos.

Obviously it's what the rap audience wants to see. The purpose is to sell product.
