depending on how you want to change your water chemistry. (I'm not sure exactly which way it goes, but it will change the ph in your tank.... you might try www.drsfostersmith.com and see if you can find rocks that you like, or any more information on the effects of limestone... i think it makes the water harder......... )

Limestone will increase the PH buffering capability of your water, but I would not recommend it. Undesirable trace metals may be present in the rock and will leach into your water. Some saltwater spices are very sensitive to these metals and will become stressed from them. I suggest getting some crushed coral, Argonite works very well and helps as a PH buffer, CaribSea is a great brand.

I cant say from experience, but considering how porous it is I would imagine it would break down easily, and thus affect your pH. I wouldn't recommend it. We used chunks of concrete, soaked it in bleach water for a few days, then cured in buckets of saltwater (fresh, moving) for a few weeks. Have never had a problem with it.

Yes,but why would you? Crushed coral will do the same thing(actually, chemically speaking, is the same thing) and crushed coral from the pet store is sterilized. Lime stone would have to be carefully cleaned, really sterilized, before it would be safe to use. Be careful what you put in your tank, the fish can't walk out.---PeeTee
