No one is lying to you.
Let's tackle the Africans first: if you look at the Maya and Aztec peoples, one sees that they have "African" features, primarily large lips and a flattened nose. Those sculptures were done by ancient peoples from whom the Aztecs and Mayans are descended. Secondly, there is absolutely no archaeological evidence that supports sea exploration on the part of ancient Africans! There is no evidence in Africa and there is no evidence in South America either! Now, perhaps there is evidence buried somewhere just waiting to be found, but it has not been found yet, so it stands that the first foreign group to discover the Americas (after the Native Americans) probably are the Vikings, but they only traveled the Canadian Maritimes and maybe Maine, and there is a great deal of archaeological evidence supporting this.
As to batteries in Baghdad, why would one build a battery, if one has not discovered electricity? One would not. In fact, we are talking about people who did not have wheels (neither did the Egyptians by the way)! This is not to say that they did not build some great things and make some exciting discoveries. Historians do not refer to Mesopotamia as the cradle of civilization for nothing after all, but they did not make batteries.

History is mainly the written account of warfare and economics. It is written by the victor. The batteries are one scientists conjecture. There has never been anything discovered that would use batteries. So his theory is probably sound.
The African Features you speak of are also Olmec features. The Africans would have had little reason to travel. Their continent was sparsely populated and provided anything and every thing they needed. Travel and exploration is done by people seeking something. I doubt any real historian said it is impossible, just not likely. Relax. If someone is lying to you prove them wrong, don't just get irate.

History is the interpretation of known causes and the effect that they had on people. History is also somethings that some people would say are crazy by people.
The Olmec predate the Maya and Aztec and they account for the large heads that are found in South America. The reports that there are things like batteries in Babylon and the like are one person's interpretation of things that are seen in glyphs and the like. There's even a tapestry in Italy that pro ports to show a space battle going on over the Crucifixion is it Real?
There are people who have built ships in Africa and sailed them to the New world to prove what you say you believe Read The Ra Voyage by Thor Heyerdahl to start and you'll find more as you search. Historians don't lie on purpose but find evidence to support you claims and push them I for one am always open to new ideas that are reasonably put forth and defended.
Good Luck

Because there may be hidden forces (or controllers - for want of better words!) who have the money and worldly power to control what is written so as to serve their interests at the time. But truth always finds a way, even if it takes millenia for it to surface. We are all brain-washed so we all think what we read is fact when really some of it is most likely buffed up somehow or fabricated. Yet if we start saying these things we get called conspiracy theorists. But if you look deep enough you will realise that much of what you have thought to be true is just not! This world is treacherous!

I agree with those that say 'History is written by the victors.' However, I agree with your assessment that Historians are too closed minded and biased. History is defined by written records. If there are no written records, then it is not considered history, it's archeology.
So to answer your question, according to historians its not possible that Africans went to South America because there are no written records of it (that we know of). Does it mean that it did not happen? No, it means we have no written proof. I hope that helps.

maybe africans did come to south america.. but they would have been in tiny ships for months so its possible but not likely..
and yea ancient batteries were found in the middle east but they weren't like you think of.. actually it was on myth busters .. they were really low voltage and they couldn't use em for much more than giving you a tingly feeling in whatever you touched it with..
