Get a common denominator for the fractions in this case it is 88, the least common multiple of 8 and 11
2/8 * 11/11 = 22/88
10/11 * 8/8 = 80/88
Now the problem looks like this: 13 22/88 - 9 80/88
That equals 3 30/88 which reduces to 3 15/44

First step:
13 2/8 = [13(8)+2]/8 = 106/8

9 10/11 = [9(11)+10] = 109/11

Second step:
[106(11)]/[8(11)] = 1166/88

[109(8)]/[11(8)] = 872/88

Third step:
1166/88 - 872/88 = 294/88 = 147/44 = 3 15/44
