No, if the Security Center doesn't recognise your anti-virus and shows you warning all the time, then you can make it ignore that. Open Security Center and click on 'Change the way Security Center alerts me'. Untick the box next to anti-virus monitoring and hit OK. That should do! By the way, Security Center recognises a lot of anti-viruses, what on earth do you use that it does not recognise it?

In my experience ( 20 odd years in the computer trade ) no one can monitor net virus protection like the computer itself . You may be able to disable the main programme with your windows package and install another . but to try and monitor it yourself is foolish to date there are some 600 ,000 different virus and spy ware bugs out there on the net and those are just the ones we know about . If you are having problems running virus protection on your computer you may already have developed a bad cold ....?Regular updates to virus control are important to keep your system healthy ,, so good luck in watching them all ...hope you got fast fingers lol.....Vortash 2 UK

You can monitor it yourself with no trouble what so ever. The Security Center is notorious for not recognizing certain Anti_virus programs, Firewall programs etc.
There is an excellent guide to disabling unneeded services and optimizing windows at;

They have step by step instructions and screenshots.

You cant monitor virus applications yourself. There are so many programs that are downloaded just using internet explorer as a web browser that you dont even see...you'd really be taking a HUGE risk.
I wouldnt advise this.
