Essay topic: when are people considered mature?

No ages, ages don't matter, just qualities about humans being mature.

When they have the ability to make clear decisions based on logical thinking and not by pure emotion alone.

Wow, that's a big question. I think it relates to control of people's emotions and how they display them. It also depends on what you are using as a "measuring stick". Who or what is the person being compared to? My 3 year-old is very mature compared to her favorite playmate only a week apart in age. It really is based on the opinion of the person making the judgement.

In the end, my definition would be someone who genuinely thinks and behaves in a manner that is appropriate for their age or above. (Of course that opens up the huge question of what is appropriate behavior for a person's age. So, once again, it comes back to the opinion of the individual making the judgement. Oh well.)

Maturaity is not a quantifiable attribute, in other words you can not take a test and recieve a score that will tell you how mature you are. To complicate this, not only does it encompass many different facites of behaviour, almost everyone has a different idea of what mature behaviour is.

So when are people considered mature? Probably the best answer is when they act in a manner that takes responsiblity for their actions and is cognizent of its effects on others.
