Tuck your hair up under a bandanna before putting on your helmet (washing the liner will help too). Don't do any barnwork that day (don't brush out your horse). Change your clothes before going to the salon (your clothes hold more horse smell than your hair does)
When you walk into the salon explain to the hairdresser that you just got back from the stable. It will also start some interesting conversation with the stylist I'm sure.
Honestly, unless they're very snooty or your hair has straw in it, they probably won't mind if your hair smells a little horsey.
Hope this helps

I've never noticed a smell from riding, but if I have to be somewhere after going to the barn and I want to feel cleaner, I try to do groundwork so I don't have to wear a helmet, or do very light work so I don't sweat.
All hair-cutting places that I have been to will wash your hair for you. I don't know if you are getting the haircut or riding first, but you could wash your hair the night before, then ride and go do what you need to do, then get your hair washed and cut.

Check with your local tack stores that carry grooming supplies. There are products out there for humans that you can "wash" your hair without actually taking a shower. There are several kinds, most of them were made for the traveling cowboy or cowgirl that doesn't have time or the place to shower out on the road. It comes in a powder form that all you do is sprinkle a little in your hair and move it around as if you were taking a real shower. I've had to use products like these on the road many times cause I have naturally oily hair. They smell pleasant and no one will be able to tell you didn't wash your hair. BABY POWDER works too.

I understand what you're saying. I never noticed the smell of horse clinging to me (other than when I ride bareback) until I adopted my OTTB. I worked at the place that owned him for 6 months before I adopted him and I would always smell bad everytime I left there. I thought it was because a lot of the working was indoors and they were sweating a lot with a fan blowing on them (it's an equine treadmill) but now that I own him at a different facility it still makes my hair smell terrible. Before him I thought that all of my horses smelled good...I dunno, maybe it's a TB thing. I haven't been able to bathe him since I've owned him since I got him in November but he and the other horses got bathed every other day in the summer, so who knows.
I don't really know what to suggest other than to skip the ride or take the time to wash your hair twice. I don't know if putting your hair in a hat will do anything....maybe, I've never tried. But it sounds like you might just need to skip the ride for one day.

I understand your problem, after grooming your horse often times the dust that is on your horse settles down in your hair. It's happened to me as well, so I wouldn't worry about what all these people are saying.
I really have no helpful hints as to keep if from not smelling like that, the only thing I can say is while you are grooming or riding pull your hair up inside a hat so that way nothing gets in it from the horse.
Good luck!

This one is simple Don't go riding!!You could try covering up the smell with body spray or somthing but I wouldn't worry too much it'll only wear off and smell worse. If your going to be around horses you'll smell anyway so you'll need to have a bath/ shower to freshen up so whats the problem with washing your hair twice in one day?

If you still can smell the smell- you aren't riding enough. I can't smell the difference anymore--maybe everything
I have smells like horses though :)
I used to care, and now I just tell everyone- sorry if I smell like horse. Besides- why should you care about what the hair cutter thinks of you?? You really need to relax.

OK, I have never had a problem with my hair smelling horsey after riding. My clothes, yes, but not my hair. So ... I'd advise you to put it up in a pony tail and tuck it underneath a hat. If that doesn't work, spray it with Febreze or a light body spray before you get it cut.

Don't worry about it, i always smell of horses when i go from the farm to somewhere else straight after, but I don't care, its all part and parcel of being a horse lover! I just go in and say "sorry if i smell of horse poo, I've come straight from the farm." People don't usually bother and just laugh at me!
