Ask Neutral countries to contribute to an Interim Peace keeping UN force in Iraq, Somalia etc and withdraw the young US troops without unnecessary further bloodshed where they are not defending their homeland, but becoming part of a fratricidal uprising by the Iraqis and other Native people.Defending such actions against their own better judgements, the soldiers will soon become incapable of independent thought and sound judgement of things on the basis of merit. That can prove more detrimental to the long term good of the US itself..Imagine that the US troops are today deployed in over a hundred countries around the globe. It beats common sense to accept that they are defending the United States.Glory will return to the US when it upholds the democratic rights of other people to accept or reject their own leaders, whether they be dictators or not.The US is founded on lofty Human Values, yet that position of eminence is compromised when the Administration of the day compromises on those very principles for the sake of expediency and supports puppet Governments or aids in destabilising legally elected Governments, just because their stand of th day is not to the liking of Washington's power blocs

Stop being a persistent hypocrite and actually follow the principles it was based upon. Bush could quit undermining and disregarding the Constitution and treat it like the sacred document it is. Uphold the Fourth Amendment, give the people the privacy they're entitled to. Stop destroying the Separation of Church and State (abortion, gay marriage)
Maybe the world wouldn't regard us as big-headed and egotistical if we didn't assume we have the right to meddle in the affairs of other countries, just because we can. Yeah, Saddam Hussein was a terrible, evil dictator. He killed and tortured a lot of people, and his country was an awful place to live. But, the US isn't perfect either? It's certainly not as bad as Iraq, but shouldn't we solve our own problems before we try to fix others'? Who are we to "liberate" foriegn lands, when we ourselves are hardly liberated? We're off "freeing" a country, while our president is taking away the things that make us free, that very minute.

Well, it will take some time but here is what the USA can do:
Begin working in the world rather than trying to "lead" it which means dominate other countries through financial power.
Stop medalling in other countries politics and look after your own people like the unfortunate in New Orleans (who haven't received the $$ from government as promised). It might seem amazing but countries like Venezuela believe that the CIA tried to overthrow an elected official. I wonder why Chavez is a bit upset.
No more wars on false information but only to defend oneself and through the world body. The Iraq war has divided the USA so much like the Vietnam war.
Pull out of Iraq.
No more torture or so called "tough interrogation" as some might like to call it.
Go back to the time when the USA would be an example to the world for their generosity and assistance.

You first have to realize that now matter what we do as a Nation, people will hate us. The Muslims hate us because we are "infidels", none Muslim believers. The countries like Venezuela hate us because they are waltzing with the communists, who hate capitalism.
There is nothing American can do to save face in the world, except to stand behind her troops, and when committed, fight like a tiger, win, and get the hell out. We can save face by standing by our word. Old people used to say your " word is your bond" and believed that a hand shake was better than a legal document.
If America says its gonna do something, talk is cheap, do it!!
Then we will be sending a message loud and clear, if we tell a country to get their stuff straight, they know we mean it and will not back down from their saber rattling. We have to stand for something, or we fall for everything.

We don't need to "save face". Doing the right thing is never popular. Pres Bush knew that, but did what he had to do anyways. He will never apologize, nor will I ever apologize for what my country has done to make the world a better place.
