You don't really say if you will be leaving the area where the friend resides. If not, not much should change. You may not have as much to talk about when you don't have the common workplace, but you will have more to talk about that each other doesn't experience at once, so it should all work out. If you feel that you won't really see her any more because of it, I guess a goodbye gift is in order. When a close friend and co-worker of mine married and moved away, I bought a pair of porcelain birds that clip in to a tree (could be Christmas ornaments or just any decorative thing that clips into an artificial in-house tree) and they had a poem about being apart but always remembering each other. Something along those lines would be nice.

You shouldn't. Just because you're advancing in your career doesn't mean that you guys can't be friends anymore. It just means that you don't have to worry about continuing to keep your professionalism at work. You can still hang out outside of work or talk through email or call one another to catch up.

As long as she knows it is you last day you do not have to say goodbye.
She can still be your friend. You can still hangout. I do not think that you should say good bye. Just tell her that you will see her later.

Why do you have to say goodbye?
Is there any reason you guys can't hang out after work?

Don't say goodbye, instead say 'see ya later'
