Global Warming (ahem "Climate Change") is big business to people like AlGore and company.
I like the way that they changed the term from "global warming" to "climate change". Now they can point to ANY variation in normal weather patterns (which are already variable by nature) and blame it on "evil Americans" and their SUV's.
But they conveniently ignore the fact that the most significant "greenhouse gas" is not CO2 (produced by fossil fuel burning), but H2O (produced by the Earth). CO2 has about a 5% effect on climate compared to H2O, And human activity accounts for about 5% of CO2 production on Earth. By that reckoning, human activity contributes to about 0.25% of the greenhouse gas effect. In scientific terms that is considered negligible.
Let's not even go into the increase in solar activity and how all the planets in the solar system are warming as well. The FACT is, climate changes have gone on since the Earth was formed. Warming trends come and go. Glaciers advance and retreat. All before Americans and their SUV's came along.
Putting that aside, even if CO2 were the main culprit, nobody points out that AlGore is one of the biggest offenders of all when it comes to carbon emissions. He and his family live in two large homes totalling more than 14000 sqare feet (which are heated and cooled by non-"green" energy sources), he owns large amounts of shares in Occidental Petroleum, and he jets all over the US and the rest of the world lecturing the rest of us on the evils of "carbon consumption". What a hypocrite.
I am all for reducing our dependence on Fossil Fuels (and their ensuing *pollution*), but this whole "climate change" is a scam designed to put $$$ in the pockets of people like AlGore and company.
I don't buy it.

The film "An Inconvenient Truth" and global warming are not the same thing. People have been talking about global warming a lot longer than the last couple of years. However interest has picked up because of the increase in scientific evidence and breakthroughs in data analysis on the subject.
But let me ask this – what do “the left” have to gain from peddling a global warming myth? I don’t understand. I also don’t understand what is so bad about trying to take care of the environment, regardless of global warming? Don’t we all want clean air and water? Pumping pollution into the water and air isn’t a good thing, you know.
Anyway, the Bush administration aren't what you'd call left-wing, but even *they* believe global warming exists.

You just answered your own question.
The phonomenon known as El Nino comes around in seven-year cycles. Concerns over global warming have been around for decades and poo-poo'd by government leaders more interested in protecting the interests of Big Oil than the health and future of it's citizens. Ask the Polar Bears, which are now on the endangered species lists, whether it's real. Look at time lapse photographic imagics of the meltic icecaps. Do you think it only took 7 years for that to happen? These developments have been occurring for a whole lot longer and have been worrying scients long before Al Gore took it up as an issue. OH by the way, "climate change" is the Administration's vague phrase, not that of scientists and climatologists. They use that phrase because somehow they have to acknowledge what's happening without backing down on their "their ain't no stinking global warming happening" stance.

Daljak? Poor naive you. Why is there such resistance? Because to accept it means people in positions of power need to take corrective action now and stop cowtowing to the oil industry. In addition, we as individuals would have to do our part by taking what conservation measures we can. We can't have THAT now can we?

Global warming does exist, and it is a real threat. Was "The Inconvenient Truth" conveniently timed? Who knows. Its up to each individual to decide whether or not to listen to it or turn our heads. We each have to decide whether we will be infuenced by it or not. We're all on the same planet, in the same boat so to speak. If some people feel now is the time to act, then they should feel free to do so. Who knows, maybe they are doing all of us a favour. But is it really time to hit the panic button and vote in the government who swears to save the planet? No. No, no, no, no. This movie was mainly a chance to showcase how bad the other guys are. Political punches hidden under the guise of a global threat.

Global "climate change" is very real and has been real since the world began. What hasn't been proven is the extent to which Man contributes to it and whether anything could (or should) be done about it. Too many people are willing to throw money at it when they don't even know what they should be fixing. If you don't know what is the cause of the problem and make assumptions about what needs to be done, you at the very least, might not make things any better but spend millions of dollars learning that lesson. But at the very worst, you could make something else worse in the process of trying to fix something that doesn't need fixing in the first place.

Have you been watching the news? There is plenty of proof out there if you actually listen to the SCIENTISTS! You can see it with how much of the ice caps which have melted to the point that there is not much of it left.
The horrible part about the global warming is the fact that within a VERY SHORT amount of time there is a global FREEZING...like within 10 or 20 years...this has been proved from the ice drills which have been done and shows this event. This comes directly from scientists and not any government... Bush has tried time and time again to try to bury what is happening. If you question ANYONE it should be Bush who has point blank lied time after time about things.

No, the threat is minor. the recent assembly of scientists in Paris predicts minor issues from it, notwithstanding they do attempt very tricky to make the somewhat gentle prediction that are making sound as undesirable as conceivable. The estimates are for roughly 5 stages temperature upward thrust and a million foot sea point upward thrust in a hundred years. not very frightening. they say undesirable climate gets worse (storms, droughts and so on), yet on no account truly attempt to lower back that up with numbers, because of the fact they have no. that's purely a scare tactic. No, the reason to discover an capability source different than oil is because of the fact the Arabs have each and all of the oil.

Natural climate change is always happening; we need to be very cautious about drawing big conclusions from short-term changes.
During the Middle Ages, European glaciers started encroaching on farm land, in a kind of small ice age. Many prayer services were held in front of them, petitioning God to make them go back. In time, they did recede, whether due to human prayers or natural causes.
On the other hand, humans have caused environmental destruction before now. Ever heard of the Cedars of Lebanon? They were all cut down thousands of years ago.
We are doing more to change the environment than we ever have; we need to exercise more caution here too.

There is no global warming. Now with that said there is proof that we are affecting our climate regionally. Yes the polar caps are melting as well as the glaciers but what has not been mentioned is the fact the sun has been hotter in the past decade and that the earth is going through a normal climatic cycle.
If you remember twenty years ago the left was hollering about global cooling. This is simply a leftist way of gaining more control over business and your pocket book.
This being said we should try to reduce our pollution since it can affect us in a regional area but it is awfully arrogant of us to think we can affect the global climate.

Back in the 1970s the media championed Global Cooling. They've changed their mind about whether the Earth is warming or cooling about every 30 years. Scare mongering sells newspapers. A headline of "Everything is Okay" will not sell.
