Yeah, they destroyed an old satellite, just to test the missile. That's what you call "saber-rattling."
China has never been a very invasive country, but I suppose that could change due to massive cultural change under Mao and Deng Xiaoping.

It doesn't take all that much to do that. A ballistic missile and some decent radar to track the orbit and you are good to go. Satellites don't have much in the way of evasive abilities.

And I seem to remember a certain president, I think his initials were GWB, who told the rest of the world to kiss our azz, we are going ahead with Star Wars technology.
