The capital of Australia is Canberra, about halfway between Sydney and Melbourne, in Australian Capital Territory.
South Africa is more complex - the administrative and historical capital is Pretoria (being renamed Tshwane, as part of a move to make place names more African), that's where the ministries have their head offices and where the foreign embassies are. However, parliament, the legislature, is in Cape Town, so ministers have secondary offices there. And the judiciary is headquartered in Bloemfontain. So officially there are three capitals, with different roles.
Hope that helps!
PS You forgot to ask what the capital of Germany is. That's another one that school teachers often seem to get wrong! The answer, of course, is Berlin.

South Africa
Pretoria is a city located in the northern part of Gauteng Province, South Africa. It is one of the country's three capital cities, serving as the executive (administrative) and official de facto capital; the other two being Cape Town and Bloemfontein, respectively the legislative and judicial capitals.
Bloemfontein (IPA: [ËblÊmfÉnËte(ɪ)n], Afrikaans and Dutch for "fountain of Bloem (bloom)" or "flower fountain" is one of South Africa's three capital cities, along with Pretoria and Cape Town. Bloemfontein serves as the judicial capital, as well as the capital of the Free State province. The city's Sesotho name is Mangaung, meaning "the place where cheetahs dwell". Bloemfontein is popularly and poetically known as "the city of roses", owing to the abundance of these flowers and the annual rose festival held there. Although Bloemfontein has a reputation for its flowers in an otherwise arid region, the city's name is alleged by some to refer to Jan Bloem (1775-1858), a Korana Griqua leader whose people inhabited (and still inhabit) parts of the Free State and Northern Cape. Others see this proposition as a conceit, a manifestation of Political correctness and a retrospective reconstruction of history. The British Colonial Authotities did not have a great track record of naming places after local aborigines.
Cape Town (Afrikaans: Kaapstad /ËkÉËpstÉt/; Xhosa: iKapa) is the third most populous city in South Africa, forming part of the metropolitan municipality of the City of Cape Town. It is the provincial capital of the Western Cape, as well as the legislative capital of South Africa, where the National Parliament and many government offices are located. Cape Town is famous for its harbour as well as its natural setting in the Cape floral kingdom, including such well-known landmarks as Table Mountain and Cape Point. Often regarded as one of the world's most beautiful cities because of its geography, Cape Town is the most popular South African destination for tourism.

Australia
Canberra (pronounced /Ëkæn.bɹÉ/[1]) is the capital city of Australia and with a population of just over 325,000, is Australia's largest inland city. The city is located at the northern end of the Australian Capital Territory, 300 kilometres (190 mi) southwest of Sydney, and 650 kilometres (400 mi) north-east of Melbourne. The site of Canberra was selected for the location of the nation's capital in 1908 as a compromise between Sydney and Melbourne, the two largest cities. It is unusual among Australian cities as an entirely purpose-built, planned city. Following an international contest for the city's design, a design by Chicago architect Walter Burley Griffin was selected and construction commenced in 1913. The city's design was heavily influenced by the garden city movement and incorporates significant areas of natural vegetation that have earned Canberra the title "bush capital". Although the growth and development of Canberra were hindered by the World Wars and the Great Depression, it emerged as a thriving city after World War II.
