I admittedly purchased a Dell laptop using their financial service, thinking I was doing a credit purchase. Instead, when I asked to pay it off this week, I was informed it was a lease purchase & I'd have to pay the entire 48 months off, not just the balance owed. I don't have any original paperwork to argue the case, (they say they sent it) and have had the worst people to deal with......language and accent barriers, long times on hold, been hung up on, constantly re-routed to another person......just wondering about other's experiences and if there's any way to get out of the lease and just pay it off.

No. They have always been more helpful than their competitors.

It sounds like they didn't explain the contract well enough, or that you didn't read the fine print when you were getting a nice, shiny new laptop.

From your question, perhaps you need to more concisely explain to the Dell tech people your dilemma the same way each time. That way they won't transfer you around and you can get some help in working with them.
