I think that sports in India is not encouraged in the root level, like even in a family sports is never given the first priority.
Secondly, the infrastructure in the country is not up to the mark (in terms of grounds, stadiums, coaches, physiotherapists, etc)
Thirdly , if the Government takes sports seriously only then will the qualiy of the sports persons in the country.
Fourthly , only if the private persons invest in sports will the quality improve.

the poor sport in india can be fittingly attributed to the lack of funds the govt contributes, the poor infrastructure and administrative facilities and a basic lack of interest in the country's citizens towards general sports- other than cricket. one cant blame cricket as a reason that indian sports is suffering as there are many role models to follow and considering the fact that the funds and facilities are much better, it has got a scope to develop more in the country.

i think its because young indians are more concerned with western culture, and being as american as they can? the magic that made India stand out and unique is being lost to mass westernisation. Youths need to get more proactive, stop imitating americans!get of your lazy bums and get involved in a sport.how bout cricket? you all have great talent in that area.
