I am not sure your teacher will be ok with this, but why don't you research the medias negative impact on body image in young girls? There is a lot of new information including how the fashion industry is mandating that models will no longer be as thin as they are now in order to change that negative impact.

The key is to pick something you are interested in that way you will be more inclined to do the research. Is there anything you have wanted to know more about but never really looked into? Thats the best place to start. I did my junior paper on the history of the KKK i was just always interested in why people could hate so much and the atrocities they perpetrated in the name of that hate. Its kind of wierd i know but i was interested in it so i put a lot into my research.

Fancyname has a great suggestion. It's not only the media that impacts girls' perception of themselves, but the modeling industry as a whole. I would recommend that you choose a topic that won't necessarily be "over-done" by the rest of your junior class. Some other suggestions are;
1. The dangers of cell phones (focuses on the of cell phones while driving, including statistics on how many crashes are caused by this)
2. What we don't know could be hurting us (focuses on toxins in our environment, including foods we eat, water we drink, and how that could be impacting our overrall health). A good book to reference is "What You Don't Know could be Killing You"
3. Plastic surgery...has America gone too far?
Anyway, just a few suggestions. Good luck!
