I am not trying for a baby as I cannot have children, but I am curious to know if there is anything a couple can do, for example diet or certain positions or having sex at certain times of the month etc...to influence whether the child will be a boy or girl?

Over the last twenty-five years, thousands of couples have turned to the Shettles method for choosing the sex of their babies. And thousands have been blessed with the boy or girl they hoped for. In fact, the properly applied Shettles method gives couples at least a 75 percent success rate. Some researchers have reported success rates up to 90 percent!

Old wives tales on conception
Your baby is what you eat?
If you want a boy:

Eat red meat
Eat salty snacks such as: crackers and chips
Dads should drink plenty of sodas, preferably cola drinks.

Eat lots of sweats and chocolates
Old wives tales and Sex

If you want a boy:

The woman should stay horizontal after sex, as this gives the boy sperms a better chance of reaching the cervix that the girl sperms.
Make love standing up, or use the rear entry position
Focus on the males pleasure during love making.
If you want a girl:

Make love in the missionary position, or with the woman on top.
Focus on the female's sexual pleasure.
Other old wives tales on determining the sex of your baby include:

Make love on a quarter moon if you want a boy.
Make love on a full moon if you want a girl.
Make love on odd days for boys and even days for girls.
Some old wives tales say that the more dominant sex in the relationship will produce offspring of the same sex.

There is a chinese calendar that women use but it is very unaccurate,I have looked at it and it was never right with my pregnancies (I never went by it though)..They say If to help concieve a boy the man should wear loose fitting boxers and for a girl briefs..Having sex 3 days before ovulating can increase your chances of concieving a girl and having sex closer to ovulation or the day of can increase for a boy...If u are hoping for a girl then u should eat more sweets, veggies and fish...for a boy more red meat, chips and pretzels and for dad drink lots of soda.

These are all some of the myths out there, they arent accurate for everyone and u shouldnt rely these on concieving a certain gender...

I was looking into the Chinese fertility calendar, which goes by the mother's age at time of conception and month of conception for certain sexes. I was too late to test it out this time, but it was right, I am having a boy. Next time I am going to try and conceive in a "girl" month!

If you want a boy

Because we know that the 'male' sperm cell, which carries an Y-chromosome, swims more quickly than the 'female' sperm cell, which carries a X-chromosome.

But, it will die off faster as well, so you and your partner will have to be sure that you are as close to 100% certain that you ovulating, then you would have sex closer to the ovulation date.

This allows the faster swimming 'male' sperm cells to swim off to the waiting female egg, and fertilize it before the slower swimming 'female' sperms reach their destination.

If you want a girl

Well, it is really simple now that you see the pattern. If are planning for a girl then it is best to make love at least two days before your partner ovulates, as this will allow the faster swimming 'male' sperm cells to swim off, burn up their energy and die off, leaving the slower swimming ''female' sperm cells to arrive to a ripe and ready female egg that is still waiting to be fertilized.

Other factors to bear in mind:

Males should refrain from sexual activity form having any sex or related activities for at least 2-4 weeks prior to the set date of your ovulation.
You could bath your partners testicles in cool water, as a lower temperate is more appropriate for strong healthy sperm cells. Just also be aware not to make it too cold, as too cold a temperature may have the same effect as a high temperature.
Males should wear loose fitting boxers, as opposed to the traditional male underwear for the reasons mentioned above.

there are lots of theories dealing with your birth month and how that relates to the type of sperm are more likly to fertilize the egg - some say its how far the little guys have to swim to get to the egg, that either the x or the y is stronger than the other -- and some say timing the closer to the actual day the egg is released the more likely its a boy and the further from the day of ovulation more likely a girl -

lots of theories :)

Some studies show that timing can play a factor. Male sperm are faster swimmers, but female sperm live longer. Screwing just before ovulation is more likely to get you a girl. Humping at or just after ovulation gives higher odds of a boy. Nothing is 100% though.

Roll the dice. You'll love what you get either way.

I would think the female should be wet and juicy like aplum so that those guys can do the backstroke and hit that egg quickly and wait for the eruption of cells to break free and see which chromosome is first to place it male or female.

No there is nothing you can do on your own. You have to seek professional medical assistance. It's up to the mans stuff to determine the sex of a baby.

positioning during ejaculation. the "boy" sperm have a tendency to not last as long in the vagina to the acid content. the quicker they are able to get to the egg, the better your chances of having a boy. the "girl" sperm are more likely to withstand the acid, so once the "boy" sperm die off, there is a higher chance of having a girl.
