A few days ago my internet connection died, and I have learned my IP address was either stolen or erased (it says a bunch of 0's where there used to be numbers) , when I go to the run command and type in ipconfig /all (so that I can release and renew) the box comes up for a split second and disappears before I can even read it.

you could have blown out your winsock / ip stack.
if the other guy's answer doesn't work with release/renew via the command prompt, download winsock fix:

Go to the command prompt (start-run-cmd). Run ipconfig /release, then ipconfig/renew.

See if that works. If not, are you using a switch or router? If you are, the router or switch could be the issue.

Sounds like you have a virus, possibly a trojan. If you do not have any spyware or antivirus software, you may want to get some. You may try a system restore before making a purchase of this software though. If system restore gets you back networking, then go to AVG and download their trial antispyware software.
