it is not that you try to make mistake. rather you should try to reach your goal and in the way you must decide. you can use others mistakes and don't repeat it again. but there are some decisions that were not tested. you might fear that if you testing those ways it may set you back. but don't worry. feel free to test it even if it costing you to make mistake and learn from it to reach your goal.

It an interesting question. I think, mainly, the problem is that all of us tends to radically overestimate our abilities. Like about 99% of everyone with a drivers license believe they are among the top 1% of drivers. In the area of trading in the financial and commodities markets, that I'm familiar with, just about everyone who ever became good at it learned from their own mistakes. To use the old example with the hot plate. How do you explain to someone, or how can you even imagine what its like to be burned if you have never experienced it? Ultimately, your question, I think, deals with epistemology, and I happen to come firmly down on the side of experience being the best teacher. And, like they say, the best experience to learn from is bad experience, or mistakes.

+ I wish I would have learned from other peoples mistakes! Life would have been much easier that way!
Some people need to make there own mistakes (but then there further behind)
Others can learn from others (and excels, get further ahead)
I think it's great that you have learned from others mistakes!
And you should not change that! I don't think that your friend is very wise. He/She seems jealous and seems like He/She wants you on there same level because it will make Him/Her feel better about themselves!
Please don't listen to Him/Her!

it's not that easy to learn from other people's mistakes, it's much better to make your own - it's called experience
a person who doesn't make mistakes - doesn't do anything
