Whenever you catch yourself thinking negative thoughts, like " why am I always so stupid?", say to yourself forcefully (and loudly, if you are alone): " I know this trick, GO AWAY FOR A WHILE!!! " You might use the word: ploy, or ruse, or tactic instead. Persevere - it will take some time, and that negative self-dialogue will never entirely disappear, but it will reduce considerably.
