Good question. I'm sorry I don't know the answer. After all the number of accidents caused by people smoking too much is very small compared to the number of accidents caused by people drinking too much.

Because they need someone to pay for the Olympics and other events.

What they should ban is the sale of anything with violence or sex in games, music, radio, tv, dvds, etc. to minors. Put a nice hefty fine on it. No smut on tv before 9 pm like it used to be...including the music stations that play all that trash...then maybe you will end up with half decent kids instead of institutions filled with crazies and drug addicts and criminals.

Smoking makes people sick and that's good for the pharma companies...booze kills innocents so no way the government would ever get away with promoting that in the mainstream...but they would if they could but they can't because the people have gathered and rallied and there is power in numbers and let's face it kids are usually the ones who fall for it all.

Cigarettes are not advertised on TV in Canada...Beer is but usually only on sporting events. You will note no one ever takes a drink from a bottle or glass however.

Both cigarettes and booze are low key in ads here.

Honestly, i dont smoke-never have and never will. And i rarely drink anything alcohol related. But really, i dont see why they should ban either. I loved the old Spud Mckenzee beer commercials along with the Joe Camel advertising. Funny stuff!

Because it is the beer commercials that make even boring Super Bowls fun to watch.

FCC. Essentially unlimited power with no oversight. Does anything they do make sense?

Good question. They probably should. They could guise it as a way to help prevent youth drinking.
