You betcha, I'm here, and I am head-over-heels in love with the little guys. Call me obscessed, call me fanatical........call me the Ratlady and I'll wear the title with pride.

I've had over 200 rats in the past 10 years.

I like the way their thumb-less hands manipulate their food, or grab their fur when they groom
I love the big dark-eyed stare and the twitching noses.
I like the games that they play with each other when they are out playing
I like the way they know how to have fun with whatever toys you give them...............................

Yes, their lifespan is short :*( but they sure know how to live it.

I brought my first rat home in 1997 when I was 38 and I've been hooked ever since. I will be devoting the rest of my life to rats, in the way of an all encompassing website, and as a pet consultant in their care.

I've joined many rat-only Yahoo groups to learn from others about rat care and rat knowledge. I founded and moderate 4 of these forums. And my desire to continue to learn about them is insatiable.

I am surprised no one mentioned AFiRMA! The America Fancy Rat and Mouse Association. Visit their website to meet other ratty lovers and view past & present prize-winning rats. Move over AKC, here come the rats!

Varieties Of Fancy Rat

Since the formation of the Fancy Rat, many different colour variants and pattern markings have been introduced. The original wild colouring of the rat is Agouti, which was the natural colouring of the Brown Rat. Other common colours seen are Black, Mink, Champagne and Albino, with markings being Hooded, Variegated, Berkshire, and Capped . Two types of coats have also been mutated one being the Rex. There is also a less common coat called Hairless, which would seem to be self-explanatory. Please remember that there are so many new breeds/colours/shapes being bred these days that not all variations will be included here.

Think over. Do you really want to have a rat as a pet?

All the best

Pick me pick me pick me!

I have 4 rats, Oscar (male) Custard (male) Martha (female) and Storm (female) The boys are sterilised, as I found out what happens when you leave a boy and girl together for a bit too long!

I love my rats dearly, infact I have just bought them a new cage, it is huge! They are very spoilt! They enjoy sitting on our shoulders while we walk around the house. I used to take my favourite rat HoneyBear for a walk to the school with my daughter, the kids used to love her but the parents and teachers used to go off their dials! (They hated her!) Unfortunately HoneyBear died last year. (my fault, don't ask) and I bought Martha as a replacement, she is very cute.

Oscar is very grumpy, stays to himself but will make an appearance for a scratch every now and then.

Custard is the lunatic of the lot, eats everything (including my favourite shoe) and is just so cute he gets away with every thing!

Martha is so funny, is quite happy to sleep up the sleeve of your dressing gown when you are watching tv.

Storm, also very quiet and reserved, usually snuggling up to Oscar most of the time!

All my rats are litter trained, and usually come when you call them by their name. The eat everything , except cheese, believe it or not! They are definitely nosey! Ever tried using a computer when there is a rat loose around it. You end up with jlkafjkdas oaiwj in the google search, and wonder why it comes up with nothing!

I love my ratties dearly, and will always have them!

I've had four rats. My first two were hairless ratties. Named Peaches and Stormy (peaches was the color of a peach, and stormy looked like a storm cloud. And then they died, and It was terrible. A year later I got two more "Hairless rats", Noodle and Doodle. they ended up being deformed and grew hair in random places, which makes them all the more cute. One of them died, (Noodle) Doodle is still alive and cute as ever ^__^

Yay for rat lovers!

I've had a dozen or so rats in my life, and loved them all. I always find it amazing how each rat has its own unique personality.

My little baby right now is named "Trio," so called because she only has 3 feet. But it sure doesn't slow her down.

A good place to meet other rat enthusiasts is the Rats Rule forum:

I LOVE RATTIES!!! I had four of them, but then they died. :'-(
They are sooo cute! I think it's sooo annoying when people assume that all rats are disgusting just because some of them live in sewers. IT'S UNFAIR TO RATTIES!!!!!

I loved my rats. I told people that they were like little puppies with ugly tails (though I thought it was cool the way my rats would wrap their tails around my neck when they were balancing on my shoulder)

The only problem is their lifespan :(

I love rats! My first pet rat was Penelope. She was trained like a dog. Very cool pets and not at all dirty like people think!
