Hi,
The lyracal bit could be done be a lyracist, the tunes by a melodist, Or you cold be just all that - a song-writer.
I sometimes think of myself as a "half-hearted creator of things musical."
I have decent new lyrics for "America", and a tune with no name.
What to do ?
Oh well, I suppose that something will come together.
Like describing every place on the Grand Union canal from London to Brum, in four minutes. A brilliant work of song-writing.
The rest is mediocre, but passable in an amateur situation.
All the best with being the song-writer, I look forward to your latest CD. What is the name of the band ?
Cheers,
Bob.

Lyricists write the words to a song. They're like poets that put their words to music, either their own music or somebody elses.

Composers writes music. They may also be lyricists, but not necessarily.

Songwriters can be either lyricists or lyricists/composers.It pretty much depends on the definition in the head of the person using the word.

They are called the Bighead

Or the ego monster

But mostly songwriter or lyricist...although lyricist just means somone who writes the words...not the music...if its just the music you can call yourself a composer

If you are planning to perform your own songs with your band, that would presumably make you a singer/songwriter.

No i dont think there is another name other than a songwiter. I supppose you could be a composer if you compose the songs as well. I think saying your a songwriter is quite cool!!

It is songwriter.
You could call yourself a composer, but that tends to be classical music.
A lyricist only writes the words (such as Bernie Taupin, and then Elton John composes the music)
