If you want a good biography about Plath, visit this site neuroticpoets. com, in this site they totally delve on her depression, after her father's death, first suicide attempt, how they looked for her for several days, (she was found under a crawl space in the cellar of her mother's house, passed out, after vomiting all the pills she took with alcohol), her involvement with her later husband poet Ted Hughes, who was abusive and eventually cheated on her. In this site they depict how she taped the door, between the kitchen and the nursery, she had two children, and gased herself in the oven. What I found most uncanny is how Hughes second wife died, I will let you go and read it for yourself. A poem I really like that she wrote is "The Mirror" I think it really shows part of her state of mind, about herself.

She was severely depressed and commited suicide at age thirty. She was once institutionalized (after her 1st suicide attempt) and she wrote about this time in a semi-autobiographical novel "The Bell Jar."
Here is a wikipedia article about her...

There was also a movie made about simply called "Sylvia" starring Gwyneth Paltrow in the title rle.

Fascinating woman. She married fellow poet Ted Hughes and they had a very stormy relationship (and two children I believe). My favourite poem is Morning Song (one of her earlier ones). She committeed suicide by putting her head in an oven while her children were asleep in the bedroom. Tragic.
