It's 18. But you can go to court to try and become emancipated. But you will have to prove that you are completely capable of taking care of yourself without a parent or guardian. It is a long procedure. You will need to see a psychiatrist and prove that you can make enough money to support yourself and also that you will get a high school diploma somehow. It's not as easy as it sounds. My strong advise is to stick it out with your family until you are 18.The grass is not greener on the other side.TRUST ME!!

The magical age is 18 (in every state), unless you’ve been emancipated in some manner such as marriage (requires parental consent), court decree (RARELY granted in any state), etc.
Now, if this is a situation where your parents are divorced and you want to live with the other parent, then a judge would take your wishes into consideration, but they aren’t required to abide by them. They take many other things into consideration too.

The document "I Hate Hippies" is referring to is probably a power of attorney that would have to be signed by your parent(s). However, if your parent(s) will not sign a Power of Attorney, you are old enough to petition the Court for emancipation. The Power of Attorney is quickest and easiest. You can buy a POA form from a stationary story or one of those copying centers/copy stores. You'll need to prove you can support yourself or have someone who will support you to be emancipated. You need an attorney for emancipation, but you can get a free attorney as a minor. Call the office of your state bar for an attorney referral if you have to go that route. If you have good reason to be emancipated, most attorneys will do it for free and the Court will waive any filing fees and costs for you.

What if I want to leave home?
If it is necessary for you to leave home,
first seek help, advice and information
from someone you can trust such as a
school counsellor, or youth worker.
When can I leave home?
There is no law that states the legal age for leaving your home. Generally if you are over
the age of 16 you are deemed to be financially and emotionally self-sufficient.
What if I am under the age of 16 years?
There is no law to prevent you leaving before
16 years of age. However:
• your parents or legal guardian may contact the Department of Community Development if they believe you are in moral or physical danger. eg. you are living with a much older boyfriend or girlfriend, or you are living on the streets. The Department of Community Development may intervene by offering counselling to resolve the issues that have lead you to leaving home. Alternatively, the Department or the police may use their
powers to apprehend you if you are deemed
to be in need of care and protection.
• your parents or legal guardian may contact
the police to report you as a missing person
What if I am under 16 years of age and
I need to leave home because my home
is not safe?
If your home is not safe, your local youth
service or school counsellor will assist you
to find alternative accommodation.

Your parents need to give you permission. However, there is something you can fill out which lets your parents give YOU custody of yourself before 18. I forget what it's called though.
