Right now with the price of gas, A HORSE!!!

However, the heater on my horse doesn't work to well for these winter months. And getting up at the crack of dawn to start heading into work doesn't sound very appealing. I guess I'll just have to keep both car and horse.

It does not sound unusual at all for a 16 year old girl to want a horse rather than a car!!! There is still plenty of time for a car to be purchased. If she has access to using a car when needed, then she now has the best of both worlds but just necessarily have the expense of car and horse ownership then.

It depends on the situation. If you lived in the past then yeah, a horse would be great for transportation. In present times it is not always ideal to ride a horse, especially if you live in the city where there is too much traffic from cars to take a horse anywhere. If there was some sort of natural disaster where you couldn't use a car anymore then perhaps a horse would be ideal. I just think it would be inconvenient to take a horse anywhere unless your somewhere out on the country side and it's okay to travel by horse and you don't have to take all day just to go to the grocery store.

It depends. You live in mountains? Have resort on top of a hill ? have an estate with 100 acre forest/garden. I bet, you would love a horse. You can not drive a car between the trees. And it will be fun. Believe me. And there is no fuel costs and costly spares and insurances.

But then, when you are back to the concrete jungles, you need a car. First of all the cops may not allow you to ride a horse on the busy lane. And then how will you feed the horse and clean it?

So, get rich. Have a forest villa with horses and a posh bungalow in the city!
All the best

I chose to have two horses instead of a car I got around on a motorbike instead, much cheaper than four wheels, faster and cheaper to insure. Bloody cold and wet but worth it. Oh and you can travel everywhere on a horse take longer and tiring for both but there is no such word as "carnt" or in English "cant" is there.

I would go for a horse. You can rent a car if you need to travel.

Ha ha, Horses are better for the environment then a car, you feed them grass for fuel and they reward you with maneur to put in your garden.

I would so get a horse. Some of the best books I've read have hero's and heroines who's only means of travel is by way of hoof.

Horses are way cuter, but then again there are some hot cars around too! Hard question, both need a lot of money to keep them going! I think I'll go with the car, although I would love to own a horse one day!!

Both - you need the car to tow the horse to the beach and woods for hacks, and to shows. The horse is much more fun than a car, thats just for getting to and from the yard to look after the horse.

A car might be the more practical thing, but a car will never whinney to let you know they're happy to see you when you come into the garage in the morning, and will never should you any kind of affection. If she really does love horses, her desire to have one rather than a car isn't all that outrageous. I certainly can understand where she is coming from.

It depends... I love my horse, and I enjoy her company and the things that we do (trail riding, showing, clinics, etc). I think that your friend is probably young and has a family to drive her around. If given the choice at that age, I would do the same thing. As long as someone was there to drive me around, I'd take the horse any day. If it were now and I had to choose between my car and my horse, I would have to choose the car because I need it to get to work, as no one is here to drive me around anymore.

Well, I'm allergic to horses (get very snotty and sneezy - not nice!) and I have yet to develop an allergy to cars, so I'll say the latter.

A horse, I'm sure, is a great thing to own, but I've never seen one doing 70 on a motorway and I need to commute to work, so I'll stick with the four wheels, thanks!
