If your car has a manual transmission, this is normal. If you have an automatic, you are just not finding the dipstick. Look in your owner's manual for the location.
If you really do have a manual, there will be two plugs in it, one in the bottom to drain the oil (it is oil, not transmission fluid), and one in the side to check the level and refill. Pull out the plug on the side, and stick your finger in. It should be full to the bottom of the hole. If it is not, you need to add some oil. Please contact the dealer if you do not know what kind of oil was supplied from the factory. You do not want to mix weights, or synthetic with normal. Typically it should be a 75/90, or something like that. This is a gear oil; motor oil will not work.
Hope this helps.

Actually, some of the newer GM sport compacts have the dipstick within the tranmission filler tube. Check there.

The dealer knows what level it's supposed to be at. What they do is remove the access plug and drop a makeshift dipstick in to check for predetermined and recommended level. Pretty silly, huh.

If it's a stickshift then there is no dipstick. If it's an automatic then there is one.Next time you have your oil changed have the mechanic show you where the dipstick is.If it's a stickshift have him check the fluid as it's only accessable from underneath the car.

If you need to replace a missing dipstick, go to California. There are plenty of them all over.

Look for a sight glass on the drivers side of the transaxle.
You may have to look at it from under the car just forward of the left front tire.

for the twenty bucks you will spend at a GM dealer to replace it it will be far cheaper than watching your engine explode when the oil gets too low.
