The average person coming out of a top ranked MBA program increases his salary by 50-100%. For them, it is worth it.

Going to a ranked MBA program that is not in the top 10-15 will allow students to change fields and improve their salaries -- but not by as much as those at the very top.

Getting an MBA at a school that is not ranked (e.g., not in the top 50) might help someone get ahead in their current position if they are getting the degree part time. However, it won't give them a lot of help if they want to switch careers or want a big bump in salary.
