IP stands for Incandescent Power. The higher the number, the brighter the light. Some manufacturers make lights that are very bright but that use less electricity than lights that are dimmer. So, if you want a bright light that won't cost much in electricity, you should look at the wattage and the IP number. If the wattage is low, and the IP is high, you will get the most value for your money, if you need to pay the electric bill or if lowering electricity consumption is, for any reason, important to you.
