I think most jeans these days come pre-shrunk, though it should have said on the original label if they were of pre-shrunk denim, but you might have thrown that away. You could still try though. I think you need to put them on a fairly hot wash - try 60 degrees C. If that doesn't work then step up the temperature. Do bear in mind though that if they shrink in the width then they will also shrink in the length. I think it would be best to get a new pair and save those as they are for if you do put back on some weight or as a reminder that you have a new slimmer shape.

If your new jeans are a size too big, or if your old jeans have gotten looser with wear, you can shrink the material using hot water. There are multiple methods you can use, but heat is a factor in each one. Here are a few different things you can try the next time you need to shrink your jeans down to size

My aunty used to shrink hers to fir all the time. Apparently you put them on & sit in a bath of hot water, well as hot as you can handle!!!!!! If you just put them on a very hot wash they may shrink too much. Also if they are of the pre shrunk variety none of these methods is likely to work very well & you wil just have to take them in a bit

Wash them at a minimum of 40 degrees, then make sure you tumble dry them immediately afterwards, without pulling them into shape at all, and they should shrink a little, at least for when you first put them on. Try doing this repeatedly.

put them on a hot wash or if you dry them ina tumble dryer i think this makes them shrink a bit too. Try not to sit down or slouch in them too much this causes them to stretch quicker. Good luck!
