My laptop tells me that it's connected and the signal is strong, but I can't bring up any web pages.

I checked my router. Power is on, all cables are snugly connected. I can't figure it out. =....(

There doesn't appear to be anything wrong with my laptop's internet settings. I live in a densely-populated neighborhood with other unsecured wireless networks within range, and I'm able to browse the internet by piggybacking on those.

But naturally, I want to use my own router, not my neighbor's.

Anybody have any idea what might be the problem?

I have already tried executing the "repair" function. That didn't work.

Bounce the router, that is, unplug it from the electrical power, wait 15 seconds, and plug it back it. After the lights come back on, see if you can get online. If that doesn't work, call the router manufacturer and get them to help you. If you live where there are a lot of other unsecured wireless networks, several people may be piggybacking on yours! An unsecured wireless network is NOT a good idea, especially since you can set up encrypted WPA security to prevent piggybacking. Your router mfg. can help with that.

Lets just say you may have too much interference. I have the same problem here where I live. At any given time I can see 20 wireless networks. The best advise I can give is make sure your wireless unit is centrally located to where you are at. also try to reboot all the units. Unplug them and then wait about 30 seconds and then plug the modem in first and followed by the other units. If this is a new unit it may have an IP that is confilicting with each other. Then you will have to change one of them.

First use the software that came with the wireless card. Second go into the control panel/Services and disable Windows Zero Config. The zero config automatic connects to any available network which is why you get the strong signal but you are not getting an IP address, you are connecting to a foreign network.

So you have a cable or DSL internet connection to your router I assume. First reboot the router and the cable or DSL modem by turning off their AC power for a few minutes. Then turn the modem back on first and finally turn your router back on. You can try hooking your PC directly to one of the router's ethernet ports to see if that works ok. Buy a 50 length of CAT5e ethernet cable with the RJ-45 connectors on each end and run the cable from the router to your PC.

Do you have any security on your wireless router activated? I had the same problem when I was using WEP security, it just wouldn't let me use the internet but said it was connected. So I switched to WPA security and now it works fine. If you do not have any security activated then I am sorry I can't help you.

if your WEP on the router is enabled...make sure that on your wireless network connection configuration the WEP key is correct, try to re - type it!

try to run the wireless zero config by going to control panel -> adminitrative tool -> services -> wireless zero config -> set to automatic & start up status should be = started -> OK

go to your network connection -> right click wireless network connection -> view available wireless network -> select your network name -> provide WEP/network key manually -> connect

try to browse.....for further assistance call your router tech support

open the network connections and click on the repair button. If that don't do it then reboot the router.
