Good Q. Number one has a valid clue. What you want to avoid is any usual lubricant to avoid any possible, permanent staining.
As old a remedy as soap I offer this. A white candle, or clear parrafin, gently rubbed over the zipper teeth will also ease it's path, and any residue brushes away easily and won't stain the garment.

just take a pencil and rub the lead on the zipper this should make it run smoother.

Purchase a small tube of clear or white graphite, at your local hardware store. Its good for your locks too.
