Being goth has nothing to do with what clothes you wear or music you listen to, it is a way of thinking and seeing the world. The clothes that goths wear and the music that goths listen to is just a reflection of that mindset. Goths see that there is extreme pain and evil in the world, along with the good. Instead of condemning it or ignoring it, goths accept these things as a part of life and try and enjoy the good along with the bad, since they can't stop the bad from happening. They are not obsessed with death, they just accept it as an inevitability. They do not try and cause more pain in their (or anybody else's) lives, since there is plenty to start with. Goths tend to be kind, intelligent, non-violent, emotional, and artistic.

Real goths or fake wannabe's? Real goths are outsiders. They strive to seperate themselves from the flock. They want to be their own person, not societies person. They tend to be interested in the darker side of life and myths: vampires and such. Typically they dress in black or outlandish clothing. They can be anti-social but they aren't always.
I've always been classified as goth but I don't think I really am. I just like the color black...LOL. But I do have a lot of friends who are goths. People judge them on the wannabe's. Wannabe's are usually the alcoholics, druggies, psycho kids who do everything for attention. Real goths don't want attention, they want to be left alone and be able to do their own thing.

I'd describe it as a bunch of depressed outcasts looking for belonging through an obsession with death and morbidity.

Don't worry. They'll get over it like the "punks" did and the "hippies" before that.
