I can't help but feel that sometimes I'm just treated like a token gay. The guys don't really do that, but I get that a lot from girls, and it bothers me. How do I try and fix things straight?

Ya I don't hang out with those peeps anymore, but my real question is WHY they treat me that way.

They just cannot deal with the gay issue .They need to know you are the same ,great guy you always where. There is still a lot of prejudise out there and some people are so worried about who there seen with or just are not open-minded enough to see people are people and it should not matter if you are gay or not.Hopefully that will change in the near future

A lot of girls want a "gay boyfriend" (google lyrics by the Hazzards). The song is all in good fun, but the fact is lots of people take their "acceptance" a little too far, and end up wanting a pet homosexual. If it's noticeable, I tell people that I'm not going to be that for them, and that they need to accept me as an individual, and not just a better stereotype than the stereotype everyone else pushes me into.

those people you call friends are not worth having as friends. A true friend would treat you like you are, a person. Move on and don't even bother in talking to them anymore.

San_mateo is right. However, if the period of adjustment goes on too long then you will need to find new friends who will treat you as a person and not as some rare fish.

We often forget that we struggle to come out for months or years - - when we finally do come out a lot of time people don't give their friends the same amount of time to adjust. Honestly they are just learning how to deal with the issue...give them some time and also give them some advice on how you are feeling...this is hard for them.

This means, they really weren't your friends in the first place. This is just an excuse so they don't have to hang out with you. You should find friends that care, like me!

Yo, if you are openly gay, how can the the girls treat as other than gay?
What do you want out of this relationship with hetero women?

You're a novelty, to them. That's why. The only way I can think of for you to fix things "straight" no pun intended (LOL!) is to let them know, in no uncertain terms, how their treatment of you makes you feel.

Well I am guessing that many women would like to have male friends, but ones they don't want to worry about making it clear that they only want friendship. But that would be something more for women to answer I guess.
