If you want to teach at any college level (even community college), you need at least a master's degree in your field. If you want a full-time, tenure-track position, you'll most likely need a doctoral degree in your field. If you want a position at a major research university, you'll need have your own research published already, and you probably need experience as a post-doc in your field.

If you're just looking for a part-time teaching position, you are not limited to teaching in the field your degree is in. Many schools will hire you to teach in any field that you have a solid grounding in. I have friends from graduate school (we all have history MAs) who teach English, Anthropology, and Hebrew at various colleges. Whether you are teaching at the community college or university level, these jobs are part-time and without benefits. However, they are a great way to get teaching experience and the money can be pretty good, for a part-time job.
