Would this be impossible? Would my local Canadian fans of American-style country and western go for that?

Nothing is impossible. Elvis was a truck driver, so you to have a chance. Try getting a few "gigs" locally, and then do a demo CD, and send it to a promoter. It's like dealing with a girl, you never know until you ask.
