i had my first smear when i was 18 and i had become sexually active, i was scared at first, but to be honest it wasnt all that bad, slightly uncomfortable, but nessesarry (spelling sorry lol), i had one 5 years later after putting it off for one thing or another (not that i didnt want it done) to find that i had abnormal pre cancerous cells forming, i had to have all sorts of tests etc, and later found out that it would be practically impossible to have kids, now this sounds a bit off putting but i do have a happy ending i promise, i now have 3 healthy kids, but after a lot of problems with my "woman bits" i have had to have a hysterectomy at 30 years old, please have your smear, a little bit of time out of your life to ensure you have a long life is worth it in my opinion, and anybody who tells you not to have it is just plain ignorant...sorry but that is my opinion.

oh you must have the smear done please it's for your health. I can understand your fears but even though you have only had two partners and no stds you should still have the health of your cervix checked out at least every 3 to 5years.The smear test checks for abnormalities that if left unchecked and untreated could (and I say "could") lead to cervical cancer.I don't want to scare you but I can't stress enough the importance of regular smears. I have now had abnormalities twice in 7 years and been treated for but as a result have to have a smear every 6 months!I'm sorry I'm not really answering your question but I wonder if you know what is involved at the smear test, all they do is take a small sample of the cells in your cervix it only takes minutes and if I'm honest there is only a little discomfort no pain and what you have to remember is that the doctor or nurse are used to doing this every day, and you can take someone with you if you feel nervous. You owe it to yourself to get checked better to be safe than sorry, I hope you make the right desicion and go for one, once you have the next time will not be so bad. please seriously consider it.All women of reproductive age wether sexually active or not should have their smears.

Last Saturday, I had a follow up appt after I had a miscarriage and was forced to have this damned smear test. I was terrified with fear and the doctor then refused to perform it. I know how it feels, it's very painful procedure if you don't relax, which is really difficult to relax infront other people. Next time, I'm going to tell the nurse to give me either an anesthetic or a pill to calm down. It's a very important procedure I know, It can detect early cancerous cells but... you must pay a painful procedure !!!

I seriously think you should go have a smear test done , its only 5 minutes embarrassment but it will also save your life should any abnormal cells show up .. I have to have a smear every 2 years due to needing treatment for a CIN2 result when i was 19 ..
You will feel so much better after getting it done and realise the next time won`t be so bad ..
Good Luck xx

One need not have had an STD to have precancerous changes inthe cervix.
as with most forms of cancer, it is easily and more successfully treated if found early.
Sure having a pap smear can be embarrassing, but I would rather be embarrassed for 10 minutes than have to start choosing caskets.
You can attend any medical centre for a pap smear so you need not have it performed by the Dr you see regularly.
I urge you to have a pap smear. It may save your life. And at the very least it will reassure you.

A smear test is not only to detect sti's
It detects abnormal cells that could be cancerous. I am also 28 and when i was twenty three after having three abnormal tests had to have surgery to get rid of the cells that were abnormal i now have to have one every year to ensure that everything remains healthy.
Its not the best thing ever but it is certainly not all that bad and its worth it.
I don't like to think what it would be like for me by now if i had never gone !!!!

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE get one done asap it takes a minute doesnt hurt and if it feels uncomfortable imagine what it will feel like when you have fullblown cervical cancer and its too late to do anything about it and you have to have it all cut out plus chemo radiotherapy etc I missed my smeartest for 1year had one the year after and had cin 3 changes which is the worst level to have it means if left the cells would have turned to cancer i had to have laser treatment a biopsy and colposcopy (much worse than a smear) then had to have smears every 6 months but if it wasnt for having the smear test i might not be here today and i was younger than you when that happened so stop being scared of a silly test and start being scared of dying of fear.PLEASE

I'm 29 I have had only 1 sexual partner ( my husband), I have had 3 smears done in my life time.
Yes there a little bit embarrassing but it's not pain full. If your scared make an appointment to see your practice nurse and have a chat with her.
At the end of the day it's your choice but it's your health your playing with.

I always have my smear tests, last year i had 3 abnormal ones but the problem rectified itself.Yes it may be embarrassing but it only lasts a few Min's and surly your health is worth a few Min's every 3 - 5 years. If you feel uncomfortable having your Dr do it then get the nurse to do it or even try the family planning clinic(not sure if they do or not).

well i am younger then you, and i was forced to take one because i needed to know whether or not i had an infection... i was SOOO scared to have a pap smear, but you should get one, because although you only hd 2 partners and never had any visible signs of an STD/STI, hpv--which causes warts and cervical cancer does not necessarily have any visible symtoms. if you get a pap smear, they will be able to detect any abnormal cells on your cervix and that will let you know for sure you wont be at risk (for the moment) of getting cervical cancer later in life.
it is scary, but if you just breath while your gynocologist does it and ask if they could talk to you, it may go by much easier !
