when we finished engineering a year ago all my friends got jobs immediately, some didn't even take any sort of a vacation after sitting for their last exam and started working immediately....except for me.
i always said to myself that it's just my luck because most of my friends got hired because of their good connections but even knowing that fact never helped...
so i kept applying to each and every ad i saw in the newspaper for 5 months....and these 5 months were so bad, they destroyed my spirit...
then i got a job and it's really great and I'm good at it and I've just got a raise and a promotion...while all my friends have either quit or stayed the same in their jobs...
what I'm trying to say is even though you're frustrated this phase is bound to end sooner or later, just don't give up and keep looking..in the meantime try filling up your time with "free" activities -since i assume you're as broke as i was when i was unemployed- like do some volunteer work...it really helps.

You must regain your confidence. Speak with a career counselor at your school. Ensure your resume is top-notch and that you are executing your job search effectively. The best method to secure a job is through your personal network. Discuss your situation with instructors, friends and anyone who can help you. See if any of these people can provide suggestions or paths to potential employers.
The fact that others are getting jobs before you, while not great, does not necessarily mean that you are not a desirable candidate. It may mean that you need to adjust your job search techniques. The reason I point this out is that if you lose confidence in your abilities, you will have a tough time convincing others to have confidence in you.
Regarding the call center... Do what you need to do and don't worry about what other people think or that it will take you off your path. Getting a job in a call center shows initiative. Continue looking for a job in your chosen field. If you want something, go get it.
I know it is tough, most of us have been there. Good luck.

Dear Rhea,
As you have declared about your academic excellance, i have no doubt that you will be getting placed soon in a good comapny of your own choice.
I base this belief because the Indian television and print media is seeing an explosion of news and related stuff. Even the government is going to increase the FDI in this sector shortly. This would increase the need for through professionals like you.
Please don't lose heart just because others have been placed. Apply on job sites like monster.com and i am sure that you will be getting the red letter of your life soon.
It is these trials that will bring the best out of you and we will soon see another Barkha Dutt or Sagarika Ghose in you.
Best of Luck,
A well wisher

Go ahead and get the job at the call center, there is no reason you can't leave it if you have an opporunity that comes up in the feild you want to work in. Plus, having that income will help build your morale, and will encourage you to accept the right opportunity, when it presents itself, rather than accept the first offer out of desperation. It is rare for a recent graduate to land their "dream" job right after school, dont feel like a loser.

You say you have completed PGD in journalism. Make sure you join only reputed and recognised colleges for any PG Diploma program. Most of the PGD programs in India are not recognised by MU/AICTE/UGC. If you had joined some better institute you would have been placed well in top companies during campus interviews at the college

Pray dear friend, Pray. Prayer is very powerful. Ask the Lord to open up the door where He wants you & to close the door where He doesn't want you. Be sure w/o a doubt that He will place you where He sees best for you. Trust Him.
If you want read "Power of a praying Woman" by stormie omartian. You will feel so much more confident, joyful & peaceful. Helped me in many different situations in life and still does...

Don't lose hope. Success comes to some after long periods of hardwork and patience. If you have faith in your dreams and in your own abilities, success will come to you.
Suggest you read the book " The Alchemist" by Paul Coelho. It is an inspiring book
