Instead of the World Cup - have three events, a World League with the top eight nations other than Brazil in it; a World Trophy with 32 teams in it of which six are Brazilian states' state teams and 26 are countries that are not competing in the WL, all via qualification, and the top three from each go to The World Showdown (a knockout tournament where the two winners form one half of the draw).

And instead of the European & continental Cups, have the top 8 in group one; 9-16 in group two; and so on - all evenly matched (& the rankings take all WdCp & Continental Cp qualifings from the last 20 years into account / 5% less weighting for each year that has gone by), these 8-team groups are to be the European Cup & qualifying all-in-one. The top three teams per group then go into a swift knockout tournament where if it is a draw after extra-time, the home team is knocked out.

Both events are to have promotion/relegation & have fewer mismatches & more suspense about the winner. So?

Interesting idea but the clubs would never give up their players for that long. Anyway, I like the big International tournaments as they are.

Not too bad.. but why exclude only Brazil? Yes they are probably THE elite team in the world, but they can be beaten just as easily as anyone. Just look at the 2006 World Cup. No one expected them to lose in the Quarter Finals to France. If you want the top 8 nations to participate, then take the top 8, not the #2-9 and leave Brazil on the outside looking in.

Right now your World League would consist of Italy, Argentina, France, Germany, England, Netherlands, Portugal, and Nigeria. You're telling me Nigeria can hang with any of these teams better than they can play against Brazil?

How on earth did you think of such a ridiculous idea?

Fitting games into a season, already too packed?
Loss of television money?
The World cup has over a billion people watch it, how many are these pointless games going to have?
Are you really suggesting that from league 2, say Spain, travel to Australia and Vise versa?
What about Wales travelling to The Fiji Islands, in one of your lower leagues? Who gives a monkeys about that game?
How are fans going to pay? How many away fans would go to games the other side of the world?

Oh my God, this is such rubbish idea, that I can't be bothered to go on!

Hi Kai,

In theory sounds like a good idea but in reality is going to be probably harder to implement. I like the World Cup the way it is personally (the group stages allow teams to get going then the knockout stages make for entertaining football).

Nope. Too confusing. And teams will have to fly around long distances far more often, which will tire them out.

sorry mate your idea sucks. the fun in international footy is that teams like ghana, trinidad and tobago etc can challenge the so called bigger teams.
