It also is harder to push down with my foot than before. It vibrates like it is resisting when I push down the clutch to change gears. The noise it is making is like a winding type noise. Any ideas as to what might be wrong?

First it would be nice to know year and model vehicle however all clutch systems have a release / throw out bearing that rides back and forth on the input shaft collar. It sounds like it has started to fail. If so you need to get it repaired asap. Also plan on replacing the clutch and pressure plate at the same time. Good luck.

it would want to properly be grab launch bearing (throw-out bearing), the grab hydraulic equipment, the actuator forks for the bearing, or the rigidity plate 'hands'. All of those issues except the hydraulics require the transmission to be removed from the engine. it truly is going to likely be severe priced except you may do the job your self.

Don't forget the pilot bearing too.....
Reserfice the flywheel.
Lube the pivot arm.
Replace both U-joints too.
